HOMESTEAD BURNED
HOUSE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. NARROW ESCAPE OF THE FAMILY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A fire on Tuesday evening completely destroyed the eight-roomed single-storey homestead of Mr. G. E. T. Shand at the head of the Blue Duck Valley, 20 miles from Kaikoura. The family escaped in night attire and nothing was saved. The insurance on the property is included in a £4OOO policy in the London and Lancashire office, but this includes coverages on other buildings.
