INVERCARGILL MEETING CHERRY QUEEN TAKES FLYING. LAST LINK’S WAIHOPAI HANDICAP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The summer meeting of the Southland Racing Club opened to-day. The weather was dull and warm with Ugh- showers. The attendance was large and the track in good Order. The totalisator handled £13,814, against £10,638 10s last year. A great race. Great Shot, Tauramai and Aesculus were the early leaders with Hunting Go at the rear of the field. There was little change till three furlongs from home, where Signaller and Hunting Go improv- 1 their positions. Maintaining their run the pair took charge at the straight, and then Hunting Go took command. to score nicely ; by half a length. Great Shot was a length and a-half away and Steeton was fourth.
