BAY OF WHALES ICE
SPRING BREAKING UP OCCURS. PROGRESS OF EXPLORATION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 5.5 p.m. Little America, Dec. 27. The chief topic of conversation to-day is the breaking of tbo Bay of Whales ice, which is sailing in huge floes towards the Ross Sea. The only other item of interest was the receipt of A brief wireless message from Mr. Blackburn, of the geological party. This indicated that exploratiofis had established that the vast elevated plateau encircling ■the South Pole is connected with the recently discovered Marie Byrd Land plateau.
