THEFT FROM SAFE

ROBBERY IN AN AUCKLAND HOTEL. ONLY PART OF CONTENTS STOLEN. By Telegraph—Press Association, Auckland, Last Night. Detectives are investigating the theft of £l4O in notes and silver from the safe of a city hotel early this morning. The safe contained £BO in £5 notes and cheques, but this was not disturbed by the thief. All the money belonged to the proprietor of the hotel. The safe was locked as usual on Thursday night. When the proprietor returned to his office early this morning the door was unlocked. The safe did not appear to have ben touched, but when he opened it he found well over half the money it had contained was missing. The stolen money consisted of £1 notes and silver.
