BLASTS FROM ARCTIC I NORTH AMERICA SUFFERS DEATHS STEADILY MOUNT THERMOMETER VERY LOW CRIPPLING OF TRANSPORT By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 10.55 p.m. Vancouver, Dec. 27. An Arctic blast which swept Canada and the United States during the weekend before Christmas struck with renewed fury to-day, resulting in a steadily mounting list of fatalities. The blizzard crippled transport in the country around Montreal, where the thermometer touched a point ten degrees below zero, while the eastern part of panada : and the Atlantic States were generally buried in snowdrifts. Ten were killed in Minnesota as a result of traffic accidents. The thermometer sank to 39 degrees below zero. The States of Montana and Michigan counted ten dead, including two who were frozen to death in a motor-car which stalled. Highway traffic was brought to a Standstill in the rural parts of Ontario.
