“NEVER SEEN EQUAL”
HIGH PRAISE OF PUKEKURA PARK.
VISIT FROM HON. M. F. BRUXNER.
Seldom has a more glowing tribute been paid to Pukekura Park than that of the Hon. M. F. Bruxner, D. 5.0.; M.L.C., deputy-Premier of New South Wales, who is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. Bruxner told a Daily News reporter last night that he had never seen its equal and that he thought it compared favourably with anything of its kind in the world, He was most enthusiastic concerning its beauty and considered it well worth the journey from Australia to see it.
During the day Mr. Bruxner motored about the town, and later he visited the North Egmont hostel and Waitara, He was struck with the great similarity of the Taranaki country to the north coast lands of New. South Wales. “If one could only be transported in one’s sleep and wake up in the country that I passed through to-day one could rfeadily believe that one was still in New South Wales,” he said. The main industry of the north and south coastal districts was, like Taranaki, nearly all dairying, said Mr. Bruxner. He had formed the opinion that these districts were more intensely farmed than Taranaki, and he quoted the Lismore factory as having made 50 tons of butter a week, drawing its cream supply from a radius of 10 miles. .However, figures would tend <o show that Taranaki’s productive capacity was greater, as the Moa dairy factory was at present making more than this quantity from an area with a radius of less than six miles. At present in New South Wales onehalf of the butter production was consumed in the Slate and the other half was exported. If there was a profitable market available their production could be increased tremendously.- He was much impressed with the big number of Jersey cattle on the farms that he passed. The visitor expressed his appreciation of the splendid hospitality he had received during his stay at New Plyr mouth. He was also g-eatiy struck by the splendid civic spirit prevailing in the town. “In Pukekura Park it lias certainly something of which it can justly proud,” he added.
