WENDY HUT LETTERBOX.

LETTERS to be Addressed: “ WENDY,” Care Box 119, Taranaki Daily News, NEW PLYMOUTH.

“Twilight,” Roto: I wonder how many dolls’ clothes you have made by now with your new toy sewing machine. Baby Margaret thinks you are a very lucky Tink, and she thinks your dolls are lucky, too, for what lovely dresses they will now be able to have. Thank you for your Christmas greetings.

Margaret Barlow, Manaia: The Hut folk are all anxious to hear what Father Christmas brought you, Tink. I expect you had a very happy Christmas, didn’t you? One of the things Dicky Boy found in his stocking was a pop-gun and he has been frightening Cookie with it ever since.

“Jonquil,” Lowgarth: Was your letter written on one of the pages of your new writing set, Nola? You must have been excited when you saw the Christmas tree at the concert—and what a lovely present was on it for you! Are you enjoying the holidays now? “Columbine,” Kakarainea: I hope you had a good time at the concert, dear. You will not forget to tell us what present there was for you on the Christmas tree, will you, for the Hut folk are longing to hear. Thank you for all your Christmas wishes.

Joan Robson, New Plymouth: Yes: I am afraid “Rosebud” has been taken for a pen-name, dear, so what would you like to have instead? The Hut folk like the” riddles you have sent for our page and they are hoping there will be room for them to-day.

“Marama,” Fraser Road: Baby Margaret and Dicky Boy are having such fun in the Hut garden to-day, for they are playing with some of the toys that Father Christmas brought them. Baby Margaret has a scooter and Dicky Boy has a little cart so you can imagine how they are enjoying themselves! ' “Fay,” Te Popo: Yes; indeed, Tink, we did receive that lovely parcel of toys for the Sunshine Cupboard, and thank you very much for sending them. Thank you, too, for the pretty Christmas card. Baby Margaret has asked if she may have it for her scrap book later on. “Girl Guide,” Manutahi: The Hut folk have. loved all the hot days we have had lately for it has meant they have been able to go for plenty of swims. They have planned to go off for an allday picnic on New Year’s Day, and Cookie is going te make them something special for their lunch. “White Heron,” Manutahi: Thank you for the little piece of poetry. Baby Margaret likes it for it reminds her of the family of sparrows she feeds at the Hut. Every morning and evening she has crumbs ready for them and when they see her appear they all flock down to get them. “Princess Primrose,” Bell Block: How excited Baby Margaret was when two letters came from you to-day and we found that one of them was for her! She was very pleased to hear all about your family of bantam chicks and she wants to know what you are going to do with them all when they are grown up.

Lois and John Chambers, Opunake: It was a lovely parcel that arrived, from you for the Sunshine Cupboard the other day, and the toys are giving great pleasure to their new owners now, you may be sure. Thank you very much, Tinks, for sending them. Have you had a very hap?” Christmas time? Marjorie Dring, Waitara: I wonder what was waiting for you when you went down to breakfast on Christmas morning. Was it a very nice surprise? The Hut folk all hung their stockings up on Christmas Eve, and oh, you should have heard the gasps and the squeals and the crackling of paper when they undid their presents on Christmas morning!

Monica Milne, Toko: Yes; your letter did come as a surprise this week, Tink, but it was a very pleasant kind of surprise all the same. Perhaps one of your New Year resolutions is going to be that you will write ever so often to the Hut. Am I right or am I wrong? Sybil Bennett, Inglewood: What a great big Christmas party that must have been, and how busy Santa Claus must have been giving out all those presents! I hope you will tell us all about it later on. There has been some thunder at tire Hut to-day and now Bouncer is barking as though he is expecting some more.

“80-Peep," Mt. Messenger: Your letter took a long time to reach the Hut, didn’t it, Tink, but perhaps it was not posted straight away. We have given you the pen-name you asked for, as it did not belong to any other Tink. Have you been for any picnics yet these holidays? Billy Frank, Uruti: Welcome to the Hut, Billy. Everyone is feeling very happy at the Hut to-day for they say there is still a “Christmasy” feeling about, so you are receiving a rather special welcome, you see, from a rather excited Hut family. Yes; you may have “Elfy” for your name. “Betty Blue,” Opaku: Thank you, Tink, for the pretty card you sent us. Baby Margaret has been looking at it and she likes the pretty holly berries peeping put between the leaves. Did you have a good Christmas this time and were there lots of presents for you? “Rose Baby,” Strathmore: We were glad when your letter arrived this week, Tink, and thank you for the piece of poetry you sent with it. The Twins have just gone past my window carrying a fine model yacht that Father Christmas brought them. They are going to sail it again this afternoon. “Woody,” Mangamingi: Your letter looked very gay this week with all tire holly round the edges. Why, it gave us an extra Christmas feeling just to look at it! Thank you for your good wishes for Christmas. We have had a very happy time at the Hut, and we hope you have had a good Christmas, too. Glenyss Fountaine, Eltham: The Hut folk had to puzzle over your riddles for a long while before they could guess the answers, Tink. Thank you for sending them, and thank you for the piece of poetry, too. The Hut folk have been for a swim to-day and now all their bathing suits are hanging on the line to dry. “The Rats,” Kiore: Good for you, Dick! That is splendid news. I wonder if it will seem strange going to a new school at the beginning of the year. Yes; the Hut foils all hung their stockings up, too, and they woke up ever so early on Christmas morning and began unwrapping their parcels straight away. Isohel Death, Kaupokonui: Thank you for yolir letter, little Tink. I hope Father Christmas blew lots of joy down the chimney for you, for he sent ever sb much to the Hut folk and they had a very merry day. Are you enjoying your holidays and will you be going away at all?

"Gnome,” Toko: What a good swimmer you ought to be by the end of the holidays if you keep on with your two swims a day. Billikins is wondering if you make much of a splash when you practise diving for he still does sometimes if he is not very careful. / Percy Johnson, Warea: It is a very pretty card that you have sent, Percy, and thank you for it and for all your good wishes, too. 1 can hear bugles blowing loudly in the Hut garden now for several of the Hut family found bugles in their stockings on Christmas morning.

“Flower Lover,” Inglewood: It has been so hot at the Hut just lately that once or twice Cookie has given the Hut folk their dinner outside under the trees. They have loved it and they wish it could be like that every day. Have you ever tried it, they want to know? Clifton and Napier Willison, Waitoitoi: A water tyre is a fine thing to have in the holidays, isn’t it, especially when the days are so hot as they have been just lately. Billikins says he expects you have had lots of fun with yours already, and I tell him I expect he is right!

Ngaio Willison, Waitoitoi: Yes; it must have been exciting watching the seagulls swooping down. Have you taken any more bread with you lately when you have gone swimming? Baby Margaret is wondering if the gulls will become tame if you often take them something.

“Fairy Feet,” Mt. Messenger: It was very good of you to send us that pretty story, Tink, for it must have taken you a long time to write it all out. Yes; we certainly did have a gay time at the Hut this Christmas and the Christmas tree provided most fun of all. “Lilac,” Mt. Messenger: Thank you, Tink, for “Thistledown,” but I am afraid that as we have had it on our page before we shall have to disappoint you and not use it again. Hut gardener agrees with you about the vegetables for he too needs to keep a large supply growing for this hungry Hut family here. “Emu,” Mt. Messenger: I wonder if you dug any of your potatoes to have for Christmas dinner. Some of the potatoes that the Hut folk had came out of the Twins’ gardens and some of the peas came out of Billikins’. It was a very good "• , the Hut folk said! “Forest Fairy,” New Plymouth: Thank you for the story you have sent us. We want to find room for it on our page one of these days. There is a surprise waiting for- you to-day if you turn over, so you will not forget to look, will you.
