KING A WORLD FIGURE
UNIVERSALLY HONOURED UPHELD BEST TRADITIONS SPEECH’S WIDE INTEREST AMERICA DRAWN CLOSER By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 9 p.m. The Hague, Dec. 27. “Although the King’s message was primarily for his own people,” says the Times in a leader, “His Majesty has become a great world figure, universally honoured for the simple dignity with which he has upheld the best traditions of monarchy, for his unflagging interest in all affecting his people, and for his anxious labour in the cause of peace and goodwill among nations. “Therefore it is natural that millions throughout the world gave attention to his speech, especially in the United States. Moreover, one of the many influences drawing British and Americans closer has been the Americans’ growing regard for the King and the royal family, which was manifested on the occasion of the Duke of Kent’s marriage. Similar interest was shown in France and elsewhere.”
