HOKITIKA’S JUBILEE

BIG CROWD ATTENDING EVENT. OLD-TIME PROCESSION FEATURE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hokitika, Dec. 27. Hokitika’s jubilee celebrations were continued to-day in fine weather. A record crowd was present this morning when an old-time took place. A very fine display was made, headed by Maoris in a wartime canoe and including many old-time relics and tableaux. The streets were gaily decorated and lined with delighted spectators and pioneers. A luncheon at the Soldiers’ Hall was largely attended. Sports took place at the racecourse this afternoon with an old-time social in the evening. The largest crowd seen at Hokitika for many years was in town on Christmas Eve. The streets were gaily illuminated and the festivities are continuing nightly through the week. There will be a wind-up on Monday night, the New Year being welcomed with a fireworks display. Many old West Coasters from all parts of New Zealand are present for the celebrations.
