CHRISTMAS GAIETY

CELEBRATIONS AT OPUNAKE. LARGE NUMBER OF SHOPPERS. Christmas Eve at Opunake was a time of festive gaiety. The main street and shops were lit with coloured lights and the township presented a striking appearance. The new shops on the northern side of the main street attracted pedestrians, with the result that the traffic was more evenly distributed than on former occasions. Though over 300 cars were parked in the township, there was not a single mishap. The shops were well patronised and there appeared to be more spending power. The behaviour of the crowd was excellent. The Federal Band played Chritsmas carols in the main street. On Christmas Day there was a large number of visitors on the beach. Personal Items.
