CUP RACE SENSATION
SECOND HORSE OUT OF CONTROL. TWO EXTRA ROUNDS AT AWAPUNI. There’was a sensational ending to the cup race at the first day of the Manawatu meeting on. Boxing Day. Red Sun ran brilliantly into second place from the rear of the field, but his rider could not pull him up after passing the post and he continued for another round. At the end of this an attempt by the clerk of the course to stop him failed. The horses bumped together' and Bed Sun nearly fell. This seemed to give him fresh impetus and he went on for another round of the track when . a second attempt by the clerk of the course to stop him resulted, in a collision, ? both horses falling and losing their riderfc ,'' The horses careered away riderless, Red Sun being finally caught by 8/stable hand, a lad nagied A. E. Browne. In the meanwhile, the rider, G. Tattersall, had returnedjto the enclosure, arid when Red Sun eventually arrived he weighed in all correct. In aJJ Red Sun galloped the bast part of four miles. The/ clerk of the course had to change his mount.)
