SHIPPING COMBINE

PROPOSED DISSOLUTION. NEW GERMAN PROPOSAL. Berlin, Dec. 9. Herr Essberger, shipping magnate, announced to-day that he had submitted to the Government a proposal to dissolve the pooling agreement between the Norddeutscher Lloyd Line and tho Hamburg-Amerika Line, which has been in force for 50 years. It is proposed that the HamburgAmerika concern be divided into independent groups, dealing, first, with the North Atlantic; secondly, with tho East, Asia and Australia; and, thirdly, with the remainder of the American continent, and that the Norddeutscher Lloyd be divided into groups dealing with the North Atlantic and the Pacific. All smaller associates absorbed in 1930 will be restored to independence as, owing to the concentration, they are not paying, although their tonnage has been reduced from 4,200,000 to 3,400,000.
