BILLY BOYS’ WORKSHOP
A HOME-MADE TOOL BOX. This useful box, which you can make from packing-case wood, is just the thing for your carpentry tools. For the ends, cut two pieces, six inches square, from wood half an inch thick. After planing both sides, cut the curved top edges to shape with a pad-saw, then cut a hand hole in each, as shown at A. Smooth the curved top edges and the hand holes with glasspaper.
For the sides and bottom of the box, use wood three-eighths of an inch thick. Cut the sides fourteen inches long by four-and-three-quarters inches deep, and fix them to the ends with three or four screws in each, as shown fiiiiiiiiiitiiitiiiiiiintiniiiiiittiitiniiiiiittiitiuntiiiiiitiiiMtiiii
in the first diagram. Make sure that the bottom edges of the sides and ends are quite flush before nailing them together. Cut the bottom part six-and-three-quarter inches wide, and fourteen inches long. Screw it to the ends and sides from underneath, and trim it flush, if necessary, with a small plane. If a lighter box is required, the sides and bottom can be made from plywood, in which case the inside corners must be strengthened with lengths of five-eighths-inch angle strip which can be glued in position, as shown in diagrams B and C. Before the glue sets, screw the bottom and sides to these angle strips. About four screws in each side, and four through each side of the bottom of the box will be sufficient. The Hut Carpenter.
