GOOD CHINA: LOW PRICES
SEA-WATER TINT IN GLASSWARE.
There is never a woman who can pass by a window display of good china without a backward glance; it is only the ominous price ticket that hurries her on, but this Christmas there will be excuse to linger. Halliwells have just opened a shipment which, coming direct from the leading English potteries, is offered at surprisingly low prices. The exquisite scenes of rural England which have made Royal Doulton famous are wisely retained, but there are examples, too, of the bold simplicity of modem designing, a tendency emphasised in the dinner, morning and coffee sets made by Grindley’s. The Carlton ware is outstanding for the richness and harmony of the colours; some unconventional salad dishes and dull-finished vases have little possibility of remaining long for sale after the public sees them. Some Royal Albert Crown china cups and saucers are ridiculously reasonable in price.
Clear as crystal but stronger and infinitely cheaper, the Chippendale glass is the best bargain in town. There is variety in this line, ranging from water jugs, glasses and “handles” to sweet and nut dishes and salad bowls, some of which are made even more attractive by the lovely green sea-water tint that is growing more popular every day. Several beautiful little green rose-bowls on black glass stands will make an instant appeal.*
