CENTENARIAN’S LIFE
CELEBRATION OF BIRTHDAY. x
STILL HALE AND HEARTY.
Hastings, Nov. 20.
Hale and hearty, Mrs. Mary Adamson, of Hastings, celebrated her 101st birthday to-day, when she received congratulations from her many friends. When admiring the many blooms presented to her, she remarked, “Gardening is now getting a little past me.” Mrs. Adamson was wearing a frock that she had when she was only 30 years of age, and its appearance reflected the wonderful care it has been given. She chatted freely with her guests and joined in several jokes. “My hair never seems to get white, but I thank God that I am as well as I am,” she said. The Rev. D. J. A. Shaw, who presented Mrs. Adamson with a bouquet on behalf of the Presbyterian congregation, told her that she was known all the world over .because of her aeroplane flights. Later the 101 candles on Mrs. Adamson’s birthday cake were lighted, and she blew them all out before she made the first cut.
The Mayor, Mr. G. A. Maddison, made an official call upon Mrs. Adamson this afternoon to congratulate her. He stated her life had been featured in the history of Hawkes Bay owing to her outstanding industry and integrity of character, and on behalf of the citizens <jf Hastings, he expressed appropriate greetings upon so momentous an occasion.
