PREPARATIONS BY MR. C. T. P. ULM. START AT VANCOUVER ISLAND. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 11.30 p.m. Montreal, Nov. 24. Mr. C. T. P. Him took off this morning for Detroit, where he landed after five hours’ flight in the Star of Australia, the name of the plane with which he hopes to fly the Pacific. He blew a fuse in landing, but the plane was otherwise undamaged. Ulm plans to fly to Omaha, Nebraska, on Sunday at dawn. There he will refuel for the flight to Vancouver. An order has been given for the shipment of 500 gallons of gasoline to Long Beach, on' the west coast of Vancouver Island for use by Ulm, indicating that the aviator plans to hop off from there. The gasoline was ordered to be available there on Tuesday morning. The beach has a long strip of hard sand but has not been tested for aeroplanes. There is a possibility of bad wind conditions.
