When a plan of additional lighting prepared by the Napier City Council has been put into effect the Clive Square gardens should present a wonderful sight at night. The scheme includes the erection of four ornamental-standards, equidistant from the central fountain—a feature which will illuminate the whole square. The standards have come to hand, and will be placed in position during the course of the next few days. The artistic light fittings, however, are not expected to arrive at Napier until about five weeks hence. Once they come to hand every endeavour will be made to have the scheme completed and put into effect by the date of the Duke of Gloucester’s visit. To commemorate the service of the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Waiwera as a troopship in conveying New Zealanders to South Africa during the Boer War the Wellington South African War Veterans’ Association intends to present a brass plate to the new motorship Waiwera, now in port at Wellington. It is intended to present the plate at a function on board the vessel next Wednesday afternoon, before the vessel sails for Napier. The old Waiwera was the first troopship to serve between New Zealand and Africa. Appreciation of the broadcast by station 2YB of the Friendly Road rally in the New Plymouth Opera House last Sunday has been expressed in many letters received at the Friendly Road station IZB Auckland. Advice to this effect has been received by Mr. S. Walker, New Plymouth, from “Uncle Tom” (Mr. Tom Garland). Reception of the broadcast m and around Auckland was perfect. Attention is drawn to the advertisement appearing in this issue whereby the Farmers’ Co-op. will offer in conjunction with their usual stock sale some 12 good farm horses. In addition some 100 good yearling heifers, a number of hold-over heifers and 2-year empty heifers will be offered*
