FOUR GOOD DIVIDENDS

TE RAPA RACES FEATURE WHIRLING SHOWS REAL PROMISE 'TRIUNE A GOOD THING BEATEN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Last Night. Good dividends were a feature of the opening of the Waikato Racing Cluos spring meeting at Te Rapa to-day, the largest being returned by the Waikato Cup winner. Mungatoon, who returned over two score on the win machine. Other winners to return double figures were Psychologist and Golden Princess, white Mazir did likewise for a placeThe favourite each way, Whirling, made a good attempt to win the Trial Stakes practically from end to end, but King Rey was too solid for him at the finish and beat him decisively by a length and a half- Huskie, staying on, was a neck away third, and Curlew was fourth ahead of En Tour and Astarth, who were closer at the finish than at any other stage. King Rey is very fit and may soon score again. Whirling is not nearly at his best yet and is a big tlwee-year-old with fine speed. He is a half-brother to the speedy Bambury, King Win in Hurdles.

The southerner Morrath was the win favourite for the Waimai Handicap Hurdles, but after having every chance she could finish only a . moderate third. Glenade tried to steal the race, and drawing clear along the back was six lengths in front at the turn. However, he weakened after rapping the last fence, and King Win beat him by a neck, a margin that would have been a little greater if his rider had ridden him right out. Morrath just plodded on for third four lengths away, and St. Ames headed the others, none of whom gave any serious trouble. King Win is a beginner who jumps fairly well, and he should win again where the class is not strong.

Argument’s Strong Finish. It was with a good finishing effort on the outside that the favourite, Argument won the Hautapu Hack Handicap after Engl had led into the straight clear of Mazir, Sunny Downs, Silver Briar and Diagano, who were having a great tussle in the last furlong, when Argument came along to win by a head from Mazir, with Diagano a neck away third. Sunny Downs was fourth, foUowed by Tuaheahe, finishing strongly, Silver Briar and Engi. Mazir went particularly well for a noVice and paid double figures for a place. Diagano -was always in a good position and fought on gamely at the finish. Great Finish in Cup.

There was a great finish to the Waikato Cup, and Mungatoon brought off a big surprise, paying over two score on the win machine. Musquil and Mungatoon were the early leaders. Caliente went up'fast at the half-mile and joined Musquil in the lead. The field bunched nearing the home turn, Musquil and Caliente being the leaders into the straight from Prince Colossus, Mungatoon and Aga Khan, with Solarium handy on the outside. Once they straightened up Prince Colossus shot out and looked a likely winner. However, Musquil, Aga Khan, Mungatoon and Solarium all made efforts, Mungatoon winning by a head from Solarium and Prince Colossus, who dead-heated for second. Aga Khan was a close fourth, followed by Musquil and Master Norval. The place-getters all ran fine races. Solarium having a shade the worst of it in that he was outside a couple of horses most of the way. Midian appeared a place possibility' below the distance but weakened in the last furlong, where Musquil also tired. Aga Khan went well and may win at any time now. Psychologist’s Overdue Win.

Psychologist scored a long overdue win in the Claudelands Highweight Handicap, paying double figures on the gtraightout machine. Sweet Lap and Scotch Nation led for about half a mile when Psychologist went to the front. Psychologist and Scotch Nation were together in front as they entered the straight, where Valpaj challenged on the rail's. In a great race home Psychologist won by a nose from Valpai with Scotch Nation a neck away third. Killadar was a close fourth, with Bugle Call and Alloy right up. ~ . It looked as if Valpai would win with 100 yards to go. but Psychologist wore him down, at the end. Killadar. was staying on at the end, but he had every chance. A protest against the winner was dismissed. Triune Left at Barrier.

The favourite, triune, appeared to be a good thing beaten in the Tamahere Stakes. He was turned round at the start, and after losing many lengths finished splendidly to get third behind Golden Princess and Parquet. Golden Princess, a filly by Lackham from Panette, jumped out smartly and led all the way, scoring by a length from Parquet, who showed a tendency to lug out, although she finished gamely. Another Exciting Finish. Half heads separated the placed horses in an exciting finish in the Cambridge Handicap. King’s Knave was first to show out from a moving start, but Scotland and Princess Star were soon in front, to be the leaders into the straight from King's Knave and Star Artist, Scotland battled on gamely at the finish to just stall off Star Artist and King’s Knave, bath of whom did well. King Mestor did best of the others, who were well beaten.

Bellkyrian From End to End. Bellkyrian scored an all-the-way win in the Taupiri Hack Handicap. She jumped out smartly from No. 1 and drew away in the straight to win by several lengths frdm Lia Fail. Gay Rose' was a close third and Coronis was fourth, followed by Record Flight, Prince Acre and Chief Lap. Bellkyrian won really well. Lia Fail and Gay Rose finished solidly without having a chance with the winner. Coronis looked a certain place-getter below the distance, but weakened in the last half-furlong.
