OLD BOYS’ GOOD CHANCE WESTERN PARK 79 FOR SEVEN. SIX WICKETS TO E. SPEDDING. The Old BoyS team is in a good position in the match against Western Park, opened at Pukekura Park. Although its total was only 116 it has seven Western Park wickets down for 79 runs. For Old Boys, Birch (38) and Gilbert (36) were the only ones to make a stand in a partnership worth 70 runs. The feature of Saturday’s cricket play in the North Taranaki senior B grade was New Plymouth Colts’ defeat of Western’ Park B, one of the leading teams. Western Park A, Okato and Old Boys also had ’wins, all'on the first innings. Old Boys and Western Park A remain in the lead, closely followed by New Plymouth Colts and Western Park B. OPUNAKE WINS BY 19 RUNS. .A catch in the last over of the match brought the Old Collegians-Opunake match te a dramatic finish at Hawera. The catch deprived Old Collegians of the draw and they were beaten by 119 runs fo 100.' Batting first, Opunake was given a great start by Cundy (49), .who hit all the bowlers before being bowled by Malone. Woolford (22) and McTavish (11) were the only other batsmen to score double figures. Malone struck a great patch with his bowling, taking six for 16, including three wickets in one over. Hughes took three for 24. Against Opunake’s attack with a battery of fast bowlers, Old Collegians were nonplussed for a while, and four wickets fell for 21 runs. McCarthy and McLean made a stand and Crawford, last man in, scored well. The double-figure scorers were McLean 20, McCarthy 15 and Crawford 17. Rogers took six for 40 with fast left-hand bowling. HAWERA WINS AGAIN. Features of the match between Old Roys ahd Hawera, won by the latter by 99 to 66, were the hat trick by R. Stevens (Old Boys) and a splendid not out innings by Hawera’s opening batsman, Fairweather, for 59. Old -Boys batted first. Dowdle 23, Hammond 14 and Kelpe 10 wefe the best batsmen. Hunter took four for 10 and A. Stevens three for 22. Replying, Hawera relied entirely on Fairweather, Edwards with 10 being the next highest scorer. Stevens, who secured the wickets of Cockerill, James and Lobban with successive balls, took eight for 49 with splendid bowling. STRATFORD TEAMS PLAY. Chiefly due to E. Cole 55 and Ward 19, Stratford B tool? a single innings decision over Stratford High School by 110 to 86. Cole was opening batsmCn, dug himself in and offered a very judicious bat to the School bowling which did not beat him as he was run out. Foley took four wickets for 24 ruriS.
