TOURNAMENT AT MELBOURNE. INTERNATIONAL CONTEST. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 11.10 p.m. Melbourne, Noy. 14, The greatest golf meeting ever staged in the southern hemisphere, the centenary championship tournament, will open on Thursday. The entries total 130, including eleven United States professionals, five British amateurs and five New Zealanders (one amateur and four professionals). The prize money for the professionals is £3OOO, with trophies for the amateurs. A prize of £lOOO goes to the first professional. The first three days will be occupied with the open championship. It will be stroke play over 72 holes. The amateur championship will begin on Monday and the professional on Wednesday. The American contingent is expected to provide the most interesting golf ever seen in Australia. Sarazen, Kirkwood, Ezer, .Thompson and Smith came independently, Runyan, Shute, Wood, Diegel, Cooper and Laffoon being the official team representing the United States Professional Golfers’ Association. There are five British amateurs—the Hon. Michael Scott, McLean, Gamett, Bourn and Beaumont-Pease.
