CENTENARY PILOTS COMMENDED. TRIBUTE &ATD TO McGREGOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. A tumultuous reception was accorded Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor and Mr. H. C. Walker on their arrival this afternoon escorted by 14 planes. Nearing the Milsom aerodrome the Miles Hawk outpaced its escort to zoom down out of the sky at 175 miles an hour till It was only 100 ffeet above the heads of the cheering multitude. The Milsom aerodrome has never witnessed such scenes before nor such a large crowd. The Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, who was among those who welcomed the aviators, aid it was a red letter day in the history of aviation in New Zealand. The fact that they were fifth in the centenary race bespoke skill and courage deserving of the highest commendation. Squadron-Leader McGregor could occupy in New Zealand aviation a position similar to that of Sir Charles Kingsford ; Smith in Australia.
