STILL FURTHER DECLINE

NUMBER OF UNEMPLOYED NEARLY LOWEST FOR TWO YEARS. BIG REDUCTION SINCE LAST YEAR. REGISTRATION FIGURES OF BOARD. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Wellington, Last Night. The report of the Unemployment Board on the registration of unemployed at October 27 shows a further decline in the total number of males who are wholly or partly a charge on. the unemployment fund. The decrease recorded since the previous month is 2162, and it is noteworthy that, with one exception, the total of 59,230 recorded at June 9, 1934, the present total of 59,327 is the lowest experienced since March 31, ■ 1932. A comparison of the latest returns with the figures recorded a year ago reveals a still more improved position. The number in receipt of part-time employment under scheme No. 5 or on sustenance in lieu of relief work at October 27, 1934, was 37,003, compared with 43,605 on October 28, 1933, or a decrease of 6602, The number in full-time employment, but assisted by wages subsidies from the unemployment fund, was 22,324 on the same date, compared with 31,641 a year ago, a decrease of 9317.

This makes the total number who are a charge on the unemployment fund 59,327, compared with 75,246 a year ago, or a total reduction of 15,919.
