SOLE’S BUILDINGS, DEVON ST., NEW PLYMOUTH. DOGS A NUISANCE POSITION AT EAST END BEACH. RESERVE COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the East End Reserve Committee was held last night, when there were present Messrs. A. Milne (chairman), S. J. Smith, F. A. Coleman, F. S. Nicholson, A. Duxfield, J. Mylroy, G. Pascoe, H. Abbott and F. Morris (secretary). On the recommendation of the works committee it was decided to proceed with an extension of the permanent protection palisading in a western direction, the cost not to exceed £lO. A letter was received from a resident complaining of the number of stray dogs frequenting the beach and frightening children. Members were unanimous that the nuisance was a real one and that steps should be taken immediately to deal with the matter. It was decided to write to the borough council drawing attention to this question and requesting its assistance. Mr. Coleman drew attention to the wonderfully improved state of the beach since the construction of the groins. All the sand had come back in a most encouraging manner, so well in fact that they were hopeful that the New Zealand surf championships might yet be held on the beach. He paid a tribute to the work of the caretaker, Mr. Burkett, and to the assistance given by the borough council.
