GUY FAWKES CELEBRATION. PERSONAL AND GENERAL. On Guy Fawkes’ night the Purangi hall committee celebrated the event with an evening for the younger members of the community. Mr. A. J. Webb gave permission for the bonfire to be lit on his property. Prizes were awarded for the best girls and best boys’ guyS. After the bonfire had been lit and all crackers and rockets used everyone adjourned to the hall for supper. The evening finished up with a dance. The prizes for best guys were won by: Velme Caldwell, and Peggy Butters (tied in girls’ section), Ray Fletcher first in boys’ section, Frank Webb second. The pupils of the Purangi school are busy practising, for the break-up concert. The contractor, who is re-metalling the Junction Road from the Purangi bridge to the bottom of the Matau saddle, has nearly completed the work. Shearing operations are well, on the way in the district, farmers being favoured with exceptionally good weather. Mesdames F. Turner (president), .H. Watkins (vice-president) and J. S. Fletcher (secretary) were delegates' to New Plymouth for the Women’s Division, of the Farmers’ Union executive meeting on Friday. Miss R. Mounsey, of the New Plymouth hospital nursing staff, is home on annual holiday. ivri.cs A. Campbell and Mrs. A. J. Webb were visitors to New Plymouth for the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union executive meeting.-on Friday. The Rev. Mr. Maioah held a special service for the Purangi Sunday school children on Sunday afternoon, when prizes, were presented. At the conclusion Alicia Fletcher, on behalf of . the children, presented their teacher, Mrs. E. A. Mathews, with a posy.
