EXCITING END TO MATCH

WHENUAKURA BEATS MANUTAHI. Whenuakura staged an exciting finish to a week-end cricket match against Manutahi when it dismissed the last Manutahi. batsman on the call of time to win by one run on the first innings. Batting first, Whenuakura made 111 runs, chiefly owing to the good batting of the well known footballers, L. Edwards and P. Bourke. W. Wills batted excellently for Manutahi, going in first and being the last batsman to be defeated. S. Denby played a bright innings, batting confidently against the bowling of S. Cousins, who captured eight of the Manutahi wickets. The magnificent art of “The House of Rothschild” continues to draw record houses to the Hawera Opera House, where the showing will conclude tomorrow night. The picture has broken records at Hawera. as elsewhere. George Arliss’ name has became a byword in a world where high standards of acting are essential. In this Arliss gives his greatest performance, first as Mayer Rothschild, the founder in a Frankfurt ghetto of the famous banking house, and later as Nathan Rothschild, the brilliant son who carries on worthily the traditions of a great financial institution. He is worthily supported by a great cast, and a grand programme includes Walt Disney’s latest Silly Symphony, “Funny Little Bunnies,” a riotous entertainment in itself.
