Mongatoki: The monthly meeting was exc'ptionally well attended. Mrs. A. E. Mahon, president, reported that members of the committee had attended a school for officers conducted by • Mrs. Kelso at Eltham. A report of the progress made by the Christmas tree working bees was also presented. Mrs. N. Linn, delegate, presented her report on the half-yearly council meeting. Mr. McKee, officer of the South Taranaki Automobile Association, gave an address on a tour of the east coast of the North Island. Mrs. H. Linn and Miss G. Linn were judges of a competition for a handkerchief made from a salt bag. First place was awarded to Miss Olive Bootten. Mrs. A. E. Mahon was second and Miss E. Bootten third. Miss Jean Burke gave an elocutionary item. Mrs. and the Misses Bootten were the hostesses.
Maxwell: The November meeting of the institute was well attended. Mrs. Morrison presided. Visitors from the Aramoho Institute were welcomed. Following afternoon tea which was served by the hostesses Mesdames J. Alexander, Hood, Handley, W. Dobie, a demonstration on barbola and scissor painting was given by Mrs. Rush, Aramoho. The points competition for an eggless cake, judged by Mesdames Hanton and Coates, resulted: Mrs. Staite 1, Mrs. Blair and Miss Barber 2 equal, Mrs. Handley and Mrs. S. Hughes 3 equal. The competition for a bowl or vase of red flowers, judged by Mesdames Fowler and Sharpe was won by Miss Darbyshire. Sympathy was expressed with the family of the late Mr. S. Billinghurst. Reference was made to the .illness of Mrs. Millen and the hope expressed that she would soon be well again. An amusing competition was won by . Mrs. E. Darbyshire, I and Mrs. Broderick sang. Tikorangi: The monthly meeting was held last Wednesday, when Mrs. Whitehead presided over a good attendance. A letter was read stating that Mrs. Kelso, of the Dominion exeeutive, was holding a school for officers at New Plymouth. The drama festival to be held at Waitara was announced. Mrs. Whitehead welcomed one new member and introduced Mrs. Linsay, Inglewood, who was the demonstrator for the day. An interesting demonstration was given on soft toy making and all members showed a keen interest in the art. Many finished articles were displayed. Mrs. Linsay showed how to cut out and stuff the toys. Patterns were obtained, as next month the members are going to each make a toy for a competition. The three best sweets competition was won by Mrs. J. Garner. The hostesses, Mesdamcr, B. Whitehead, A.. Jupp and O. Hicks, had the tea tables arranged with vases of roses and other summer blooms.
KAPUNI “BEACH” DANCE. A successful “beach” dance was held in the Kapuni hall on Friday evening in aid of the Kapuni Cricket Club. It was conducted by the Young People’s Social Club. Music was played by Hooker’s, orchestra and extras by Messrs. S. Gordon, E. Austin and B. Eliason. Novelty dances were won by Mr, Alan Harvey and Miss I. Valias, and Mr. F. Ainsworth and Miss I. Valias. Messrs. C. Paterson, junr., B. Berry and W. Williamson were masters of ceremonies. Among those present were Mesdames C. Cave (blue moracain), W. Welham (chocolate crepe de chine), H. Soothill, senr. (black georgette), F. Collins (black silk and lace), Smith (lemon organdie), M. Crozier (dark blue velvet), W. Treanor (brown celanese), C. Paterson (dark brown moracain), Reid, Stratford (blue and white gingham), J. Byrne (black silk crepe), Goodwin, Kaponga (white art silk). Misses D. Hemsley, Okaiawa (blue voile), N. Berg (floral silk voile), L. Duncan, Manaia (green organdie), D. Allen (beach pyjamas), M. Malone, Kaponga (white pique), S. Staples (black and white satin), Cook (blue satin), L. Duggan (white silk), V. Gordon (floral voile), S. Tippett, Normanby (green and pink organdie), W. Weir (yellow silk), L. King (pink organdie), N. Wheeler (floral summer breeze), Mollie Wheeler (red and white moracain), K. Brown, Manaia (green organdie), Betty Patterson, Manaia (floral voile), J.
