Miss Q. Goldstone was a passenger on the Wanganella for Sydney. Miss M. Wards was a visitor to New Plymouth last week. Mrs. Roberts, Auckland, is Miss D. Corrigan’s guest. Miss W. Dalziel, who visited Mrs. J. B. Rowe, returned to Marton on Saturday. Mrs. Cundy. Wellington, who has been Mrs. R. S. Allwright’s guest, leaves today. Hostesses at tea last week were Mesdames R. P. Baigent, S. A. Chisholm, C. O. Pratt, P. O. Veale, W. M. Thomson and H. M. Bealey.

Mrs. T. Surrey motored, to Wellington yesterday to meet her sister-in-law, Miss Stratton, who arrives by the Ruahine to-day. . . Mrs. S. C. Tonks, Hawera, returned on Sunday from a holiday at Whangarei. Mrs. Speight, Dunedin, who has been Mrs. H. M. Caselberg’s guest, returned south on Monday.

Keltic, T. Wann and J. Brisco. Mrs. Moss, of the Methodist Maori mission party, who was Mrs. W. A. Spragg’s guest, has recovered from her recent illness and joined her husband at New Plymouth on Monday.’ Mrs. Moss is better known as Sister Ropota. Mrs. R. D. Speer was hostess at tea on Monday afternoon. Mesdames L. H. Giblin, C. E. Whittington, E. M. Bardsley, R. S. Allwright,. Gundy (Wellington), H. Jenkins, T. Mary church, J. E. Dingle, A. W. Harrop, W. Morrissey and Miss Moreland (Newstead) were her guests. In honour of Miss K. Moreland, who was staying with her aunt, Mrs. R. D. Speer, entertained at tea on Thursday afternoon. The guests, were Mesdames A. Excell, A. Beck, W. Syme, J. D. Rowe, C. Stewart, W. Jobson, Jobson (Nairobi) and Miss W. Dalziel (Marton). “The Lake,” by Masinghame McDonald, was chosen by the play-reading circle at the Hawera Women’s Club on Monday evening. Mesdames W. C. Fyfe, M. R. Jones, A. K. North, Misses I. M. Glenn, D. Bryant, Knight and Caplen read the play. Those present were Mesdames S, A. Chisholm, W. G. Strange, A. Evans, Harison Cook, G. L. Wyatt, E. Evans, W. G. Simpson, H. G. Whitehead, S. R. Veitch, R. R. Henderson, W. Adams, L. A. Ablett, P. 0. Veale, W. W. Thomas, Fyfe, Jones, North, Misses D. Corrigan, M. Strange, C. Reilly, Power, M. Burgess, McAllister, Knight, Glenn, D. Bryant, Caplen, Patterson and D. Richardson. — WAITOTARA GIFT EVENING. Mrs. L. Butterworth and Mrs. E. McConachy were hostesses at a gift evening at Waitotara last Thursday, the guest of honour being Miss Jenkinson, who is shortly to be married. The evening was spent with games and dancing. Mrs. £; McConachy and Miss N. Lee supplied the music. An interesting competition, “Yes and No,” was won by Mr. W. Dobie. Songs were given by Miss Jenkinson and Mr. S. Forsythe. Mr. Skinner, on behalf of those present, wished Miss Jenkinson happiness in her future life and asked her to accept the gifts. Miss Jenkinson replied. Among those present were Mesdames E. Lee, E.
