SECOND DAY’S JUDGING. HAWERA SCHOOLS VISITED. The second day’s judging of calves reared for competition in the South Taranaki Boys and Girls’ Agricultural Clpbs was held yesterday, when schools round Hawera were visited by Mr. R. Syme and Mr. W. R. Butler, who judged for both dairy type and dairy condition. At Whareroa, where the school made its reappearance in the competitions after six years, there was an excellent display of seven calves, all very even. TE KIRI DISTRICT NEWS. OPENING OF TENNIS SEASON. The Te Kiri tennis court was officially opened for the season s play on Saturday. The weather was perfect, and the attendance was good, players being present from Awatuna, Mangahume and Pihama. A Yankee tournament was played. Miss Audrey Wemyss and Mr. R. Corbet were the winners. The club captain, Mr. R. Gatenby, in the absence of the president, declared the court open and presented the day’s trophies. Mrs. W. T. Doughty, Gonville, Mrs. E. E Doughty and her son, New Plymouth, and Mrs. Campbell, Wanganui East, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. Porteous. Mr. and Mrs. Rumble and Miss Houlbrooke have returned home after spending their week-end at Palmerston North. Mrs. E. Hill, senr., has returned from ■Nelson. Mrs. E. Hill, junr., is an inmate of Opunake Hospital. PERSONAL ITEMS. The condition of Master E. Eliason, Kapuni, who was recently run over by a milk cart, is showing some improvement. GENERAL ITEMS. Donation to Band. The Hawera Retailers’ Association has made a donation of £lO towards the funds of the Hawera Municipal Band. The decision was made at an executive meeting. Twins Paraded. An unusual feature of tire calves paraded for judging under the South Taranaki Boys and Girls’ Club’s movement at Whareroa school yesterday was the appearance of two little girls, twins, with twin calves. The rearing of the calves was excellent and both, secured places. Rubbish Fire. The Hawera fire brigade received a call at 7.13 last night to a rubbish fire in Union Street. No damage was done. Tennis Tournament. At a meeting of the Hawera Tennis Club last night committees and officials were appointed for the annual Christmas tournament. Mr. R. Syme presided. Lodge Photographs. Photographs of past grand presidents of the Loyal Union Lodge (Hawera) M.U.1.0.0.F. were unveiled by Bro. L. G. Barraclough last night. There was a large attendance. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS.
