TOUR IMPROBABLE
AUSTRALIAN CRICKET VISIT. CONTINUANCE OF NEGOTIATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, November 8. At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-night Wanganui submitted a remit for further negotiation with Australia and, in support, the benefit of such tours to cricket in New Zealand was argued. It was also maintained, that the New Zealand Council should try to obtain Australian State teams. Mr. A. L. Donnelly said negotiations with the Australian Board of Control for a team this season were continuing but the visit was unlikely. The latest reply from the Board of Control stated that the time had arrived when in the interest of Australian cricket it was necessary to concentrate on home games and necessary to arouse public interest in Sheffield Shield games which would be less attractive if the best players were away on tour. Consequently a team could not very well leave before the end of February and even then it would interfere with club matches. The board also stated that under international. rules the New Zealand Council had no authority to negotiate with the State associations or with the Melbourne Cricket Club. Mr. Donnelly added that the council was still trying to induce the board to change the decision. As for the suggestion of sending a personal representative, it had to be remembered that the council had maintained contact and had a good representative already in Australia and was still in communication with him. The Wanganui motion would not help. . 1 Put to the vote the motion was lost.
