PENSIONS AND JOBS

SUPERANNUATED CIVIL SERVANTS. HARBOUR BOARDS’ DISCUSSION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Nov. 2. Seeking to prohibit the engagement by public bodies of Government or superannuated officials in receipt of a pension of more than £3OO a year, a remit from Otago came before the Harbour Board’s conference this morning. After discussion the remit was defeated.

Mr. E. J. Howard, M.P., chairman of the Lyttelton Board, said he agreed with the resolution, but though? it rather dangerous, as he considered the wording would not expres what the conference meant.

Another delegate said the strength of public opinion could be left to deal with the question.
