COMPETITION WITH SHIPPING. PROTEST FROM HARBOUR BOARDS, By Telegraph—Press Association. Christ'hurch, Nov. 2. Objection to the giving of preferential railage rates to stifle competition by shipping .was expressed at the Harbour Boards’ conference" The matter came up in a Greymduth remit, but this was withdrawn in favour of an amendment approving of action already taken by the executive. Several delegates said that the question wss a serious one for all New Zealand ports. The president, Mr. T. R. Barrer, said the matter had been discussed by the parties interested and certain results i were likely to follow.
