DAMAGE OF £6000 DONE
RAILWAY SMASH AT HAMILTON.
LOOP SAVES DISORGANISATION.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Nov. 2.
The completion of the new loop line near the Te Rapa station, where, yesterday’s Collision occurred between the Auckland-Frankton mixed train and a goods train, obviated any disorganisation of traffic.
An unofficial estimate of the damage is in excess of £6OOO.
It was not possible to move the engine off the permanent way, and special lifting equipment will have to be brought from Auckland and Ohakune next week. In the meantime the tender will be severed from the engine in order to divide the total weight, 68 tons, and facilitate the lifting operations.
