Cricket Against Fraser Road. Fraser Road beat the Matapu team by 63 runs at the week-end. Matapu batted first but could only realise 39 .runs, in which Bryant and Lobban were topscorers. Fraser Road made 102. A. Newall was top-scorer with 23. Bowlmg for Matapu, Murphy took three, for 30 and Chadwick three for 26. On Wednesday night a dance was held in the Matapu’ hall, when there was a record attendance, over £29 being realised at the door. Visitors were present from Hawera, Eltham, Kapuni, Stratford, Okaiawa and other parts of South Taranaki. The hall, which was decorated in the clubs colours of blue and gold, looked very attractive and was the work of the members. Music was played by Vinsen’s Ambassadors and an extra by Miss N Prince. Competition winners were: Cake, Mr. Hall (Hawera); traycloth, Mr. H. Calder; chocolate, Mr. Quin (Hawera). A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss J. Findlay and W. Gatenby, and a fox-trot competition by s Mr. Weir and partner. The judges were Messrs. J. Schneider and A. Lobban. Supper was served under the supervision of Mesdames Guy and Seed.
