HUNT CLUB’S BALL

FUNCTION AT MOTUNUI. LARGE CROWD ATTEND. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, the annual ball of the Motunui members of the Taranaki Hunt Club, which was held last night, was an outstanding success. The big hall was crowded, those present including many visitors from New Plymouth, Waitara and surrounding districts. The hall was decorated in the form of a huge canopy with pink and gold streamers, gaily decorated border of lilies and pink cherry blossom setting off the general effect to advantage. The supper room was decorated with streamers, and the tables were tastefully arranged with pale green streamers and Iceland poppies. A splendid supper was provided. Before calling on Mr. A. H. Halcombe to present the trophies won at the annual point-to-point gathering, the master, Mr. W. T. Joll, congratulated the club upon a successful season in every way. The sport in the field had been excellent and .the annual race meeting an outstanding success. He stressed the great importance of the combined race meeting and urged all to use every effort to ensure its success in the future. Mr. Halcombe then presented the following trophies:— Boys’ flat race (given by the master): H. Joll on Rapid Eire. Trial hunters’ handicap steeplechase (presented by Mrs. Healy, Urenui): Mr. I. Cole on Sleepy. Women’s flat race (presented by Mr. Garner): Miss M. Hill on Money Boy. First-class hunters’ handicap steeplechase (presented by the club): Miss E. Hicks on Ngareta. Women’s steeplechase (presented by Mr. B. Tippins): Miss Hazel Cole on Nimblefoot. ' Hunters’ handicap flat race (presented by the club): Mrs. McGreal on Mr. A. R. Standish’s Potere. Ben Tippins challenge shield: Miss Hazel Cole. Vinsen’s orchestra provided the music ' and Messrs. W. T. Joll'and J. Robinson were the masters of ceremonies. The following were the committees:— Women: Mesdames J. Cole, S. McGreal, J. Robinson, C. Topless, I. Cole, W. Jonas, B. Parli, P. Cole, W. Greenwood, J. Edwin, Misses A. Honeyfield ' and N. Cole. Men: Messrs. W. Jonas, C. Honeyfield, J. Robinson, J. Cole, C. Topless, J. Edwin.
