NEW CONDITIONS FOR OAKS. TWO-YEAR-OLD STAKES STARTED. A meeting of the committee of the New Plymouth Jersey Cattle Club was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. H. C. Sampson (chairman), A. J. Luxton, G. H. Bell, E. Griffiths, P. J. Petersen, F. D. Ballantyne and A. R. Bayly. The recommendations of the subcommittee set up to consider the conditions governing the sixth Taranaki Jersey cattle oaks were adopted. The ■principal alterations were that to qualify each animal should secure a certificate of record (first, second and third class), with a minimum of 4001 b. of butterfat in 365 days or 3501 b. in 305 days. Names, registered numbers, and tattoo numbers of heifers nominated must be submitted. The second acceptance must be accompanied by names and herd book numbers of the sires and dams of the heifers entered. Oh the suggestion of Mr. Bell it was decided to inaugurate an open two-year-old Jersey cattle stakes. The stakes would be open to all heifers bom since June 1, 1933, he said. The animals were to be judged on type and conformation as two-year-olds by the judge of the Jersey section at the 1936 Taranaki show. The prizemonel would be divided on a 50-25-15-10 per cent, basis. Nominations (2s 6d for each entry) would close on Novem-. ber 15, 1934, the first acceptance of 7s 6d would. be due on February 28, 1935, and the final acceptance of 10s on February 28, 1936.- The competition would be conducted on a purely open basis and testing'would play no part in the conditions.

Mr.' Bell gave £2 as prize money for a heifer class for the stakes entrants. Mr. Petersen said he would give £1 10s if the Taranaki Agricultural Society would contribute prize-money to the stakes class equal to its allotments to other
