RELIEF MEASURES
PALMERSTON NORTH SUGGESTIONS PUBLIC WORKS AND SUBSIDIES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. A public meeting to-day resolved to urge the Government to resume the Public Works Department programme, if necessary an internal loan to be raised for the purpose. It decided also to press for subsidies for those secondary industries calculated to absorb to the greatest degree workers on the Unemployment Board’s funds. Other suggestions were that the Unemployment Board consider a subsidy in respect to repairs on small buildings and to close the No. 5 scheme and that unemployed men be allowed to earn, up to £3 before it affected the allocation of relief.
