PARK TENNIS CLUB
OPENING DAY OF THE SEASON. LARGE CROWD AT NEW PLYMOUTH. Over 100 players, representative of the majority of North Taranaki clubs, attended the opening day of the Pukekura Park Tennis Club at New Plymouth on Saturday. Conditions were ideal and the four courts were occupied throughout the afternoon until a late hour. Mr. W. I. Shrimpton, club president, formally declared the courts open for play. He extended a welcome to the representatives of other clubs. The club had a successful season last year, he said, and he hoped the new season would result in an even greater measure cf success. The committee had decided to close the club to new members ana eg-, tablish a waiting list. With only four courts at its disposal the committee felt it could not have an unlimited membership and give every member a fair share of play. Miss M. Webster, top woman player, served the first ball.
