HOSPITAL VISITORS
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION MADE. MILD EPIDEMIC OF INFLUENZA. Owing to a minor influenza outbreak among the nursing staff, visitors will be • prohibited at the New Plymouth hospital' from October 8 to October 15, by'order of the medical superintendent, Dr. G. F. Rich. The last occasion on which visitors will be allowed to visit the wards until the end of the prohibited period is tomorrow afternoon. . The decision was arrived at because the epidemic has so depleted the effective nursing staff that no nurses can be spared to deal with visitors without curtailing ordinary nursing activites. Additionally, admission have been heavy at 1 a time when they can be least conveniently dealt with. Yesterday there were 192 patients in the wards. It is also felt that prohibition of outside visitors will minimise the chance of infection of the staff and patients from outside sources.
