OKAU-MANGAROA ROAD ROUTE. GRANT OF £250 MADE AVAILABLE. The Hon. J. Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, has notified the Clifton County Council that the sum of £250 free grant had been placed on the supplementary estimates for the Okau and Tbngaporutu-Mangaroa Road. If found necessary, that’.sum-.might be used to further investigate the possibilities, of that route as a connecting link between New Plymouth, Waitara and Ohura. Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., stated that he had placed this matter before the Minister of Public Works, but had had more difficulty. However, the Minister had realised the importance of the work by agreeing to a small sum, £230 on account being provided as a contribution to relief work. At that late stage in the session, remarked Mr. Polson, it was difficult to get money for anything. In'a later letter confirming the grant the Minister stated that further investigations were necessary to determine the advantages of the route and to ascertain its possibilities foi relief work, and the money so allotted might, if necessary, be used for that purpose.
