CAMBRIC PETTICOAT FOR A GIRL. This little garment is very simple to make up. For a girl of four or five years of age, you will need about a yard of thirty-six inch cambric, and four and a half to five yards of narrow lace. Study the diagram which shows each section of the petticoat, then measure the child, and cut paper patterns by the diagram sketches. Tack the patterns, make any alterations necessary, then cut out the cambric. Sew the shoulder and side seams of the bodice, and make hems about half an inch wide at the back where the fastenings will come. Join the front and back of the skirt, and cut a tiny slit for the placket at the back. Edge the placket with narrow crossway strips of the material. Join bodice and skirt together. Sew the lace to the neck edge, armholes, and scalloped hem, rolling back the raw edges of material and whipping on the lace as you go. Finally, stitch on small buttons and make corresponding buttonholes for the back fastening.
