DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF HEALTH.
INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC IN SAMOA.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night.
The Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, left Wellington for Auckland this afternoon to connect with the Niagara to-morrow. In company with Dr. S. M. Lambert, of the Rockefeller Foundation, Dr. Watt will proceed to Fiji and after a short stay there will continue to Pago Pago, Eastern Samoa, going thence to Western Samoa. Advice has been received by the External Affairs Department that no extra assistance is needed to cope with the influenza epidemic. There are one doctor and several native assistants in Western Samoa and another doctor who is on leave in New Zealand will return shortly. In addition there are nine white nurses and about 30 assistants.
Dr. Watt will be away from the Dominion for about six weeks.
