SCATTERED RAIN PROBABLE.

Wellington, Last Night.

The weather is expected to be fair, mild and hazy in most districts, but cloudy at times on the west coast from Taranaki southwards, with scattered rain, states the forecast issued at 4 p.m. South-westerly winds are probable north of Kawhia and East Cape, but elsewhere westerly to north-westerly winds are likely, moderate mainly but strong at times in Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas will be rather rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, but moderate elsewhere. An anti-cyclone of considerable intensity extends from eastern Australia over the north of the Tasman Sea and New Zealand, while a series of-slight westerly depressions is passing in. the south.
