ULSTER PROBLEM
CONCILIATORY STATEMENT.
VIEWS OF A PROFESSOR.
Ldndon, Sept. 4.
“The only solution of the Ulster problem is for Ulster voluntarily to come to terms with the rest of Ireland,” said Professor James Hogan, who has resigned from the executive of the United Ireland Party. His resignation was a protest against General O’Duffy’s leadership of the party.
“We shall never make contact with strong-minded Northerners by means of revolvers,” added the professor. The Sunday Times says: “This is the first conciliatory statement for a long time, and foreshadows a new era in Irish politics. It will undoubtedly find favour with the majority of sane-think-ing Southerners. “The more statesmanlike politicians are increasingly dissatisfied with the United Ireland Party’s high-handed methods,” the paper declares.
