New Zealand horses did poorly. Results are:— ROSEHILL GUINEAS. SILVER KING, 8.5 (W6bb) 1 GLADSWOOD (N.Z. bred), 8.5 (Britt) 2 THEO (N.Z. bred), 8.5 (McCarten) .. 3 Seventeen started, including Marcus Cicero (N.Z.). Won by three lengths and half a neck between second and third. Time, lm 53}s. Marcus Cicero was ninth. CAMELLIA STAKES. CAREFREE. 7.7 (Carter) 1 ROMAN SPEAR, 8.1 (Zensky) 2

BLIXTEN (N.Z. bred), 8.6 (Pratt) .. 3 Seventeen started, including Autopay, Golden Gate, Persian, Diatomous, The Masquerader and Frimsel. Won by a length, and a head between second and third. The Masquerader (N.Z.) was fourth, Persian eleventh and Autopay twelfth. Time, lm 2615. ROSEHILL SPRING HANDICAP. ORO, 8.12 (Cook) 1 BRAEBURN, 8.1 (Hickey) 2 lOLAUS, 6.9 (Findlay) 3 Twelve started, including Topical, Limarch, Shatter and Caliente. Won by a head, with two lengths between second and third. . Topical was fourth, Limarch fifth, Shatter seventh and Caliente tenth. Time, 2m 20s. HILL STAKES. CHATHAM, 9.10 (Pike) 1 CLOSING TIME, 9.3 (Bartie) 2 NIGHTLY (N.Z.) 9.0 (R. Reed) 3 Seven started, including Silver Scorn, but Rogilla was scratched. Chatham, although challenged by Closing Time, won comfortably by three-quarters of a length with two and a-half lengths between second and third. Silver Scorn was a bad last. Time, lm 395. The Brush Hurdle was won by Newbold Boy, which just beat Greensea by a neck. The latter carrying the staggering burden of 13.13 received a great ovation. Clangor was third. In the Highweight Handicap, Capris was fifth in the first division and Dole third in the second division and King of Diamonds unplaced. Royal Amphora was unplaced in the first division of the Highweight. In the Camellia Stakes he made a brilliant finishing run but struck trouble in the straight. He finished fourth and his Epsom prospects now look brighter. In the same race Autopay was badly away at the barrier riser. GOTHIC GEM AT MOQNEE VALLEY. RACES RUN IN WET WEATHER. Rec. 6.30 p.m. Melbourne, Sept. 16. The weather was wet for the Moonee Valley Races. Results are:— BUDGEREE HANDICAP. GOTHIC GEM, 7.6 .(Badger) 1 IRISH CHIEFTAIN (N.Z.), 7.4 (Wilson) 2 RUACH, 9.0 (Barry) 3 Fifteen started. Won by a length and a-half with two lengths between second and third. Time, 2m S’Js. In the Moonee Valley Steeplechase Apache was ninth. In the Moonee Valley Stakes Queen Helen was seventh. In the Boomerang Hurdles Cape Fair was fifth. DONCASTER CUP TO ALCAZAR. NARROW WIN FROM DUPLICATE. London, Sept. 14. The Doncaster Cup resulted:— ALCAZAR 1 DUPLICATE 2 SOLAR BOY 3 Won by a neck, two lengths between second and third. NIGHTLY’S LEG TRIAL. NEW ZEALANDER PULLS UP LAME. Rec. 6.45 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 16. Nightly appears to have thrown off his leg trouble again and was raced at Rosehill yesterday. He pulled up slightly lame. „ , It is still doubtful whether Custodian (N.Z.) will run in the A.J.C. Derby, and Sir John, whose training was interrupted by bad weather, is also unlikely to be a starter. DONCASTER YEARLING SALES. BEST TURNOVER FOR TEN YEARS. Rec. 6.30 p.m. London, Sept. 15. The Doncaster yearling sales yielded £313,666, the best for ten years. This amount is £115,000 above last year. A Fairway filly was sold to Miss Dorothy Paget for 9100 guineas, the highest price paid.
