“To smoke or not. to smoke?” This has been a burning question for the District Council at Langpprt, Somerset. “If they can’t do their business without sucking a dirty old pipe, I shall bring them a stick of reck,” threatened ope councillor, Mr E. J, Lydford. He moved “that members desiring to smoke while the council is in session be 'allowed a short period of absence from the chamber to so indulge, but witfiout suspension of the business of the council meanwhile.”" . .. r It was pointed out tfiat a. resolution permitting smoking was passed-at tfie previous meeting, and when there .was no seconder to Mr Lydfofd’s proposal he said fie would continue to bring the question up at subsequent, meetings until someone seconded it.
