TARANAKI’S MATCH TO-DAY
STRONG AUCKLAND FIFTEEN.
STERN CONTEST EXPECTED.
(By Wire—Special Reporter.) Auckland, Last Night.
The Taranaki Rugby team arrived at Auckland on Thursday at midday and was met at the station by Mr. H. Frost, president, and several members of the Auckland Union and taken to the Hotel Cargen. In the afternoon the players took useful practice at Eden Park, which was very hard but was being watered. The members of the team have recovered from the effects of the hard game against Waikato and are confident of making a great fight. Though there was a slight shower this afternoon, the conditions promise to be favourable. In the Taranaki team Preston will replace Bocock, and the Auckland team will be the same as that which defeated Hawke’s Bay, except that Finlayson will replace Smith. It will be: Heazlewood, Hammon, Caughey, Kedgley, Murdock, Hedges, Corner, Finlayson, Bush, Knight, Ross, McLean, Pepper, Hadley, Pearce. Auckland has won 35' matches in the past and Taranaki 13, while four have been drawn. Auckland has scored 630 points and Taranaki 344. Taranaki’s record so far this season is: Matches played 7, won 4, lost 3, points for 118, point, against 95. Details of the matches are:— v. Wellington, at Hawera, lost 13-11. v. Wellington at Wellington, lost 11-5. v. Wanganui, at Wanganui, won 19-11. v. Wanganui, at New Plymouth, won 39-22. 'v. Manawatu, at Palmerston North, won 36-15.
v. Hawke’s Bay, at Napier, lost 23-8. v. Waikato, at Hamilton, won 19-11.
