FINANCE FOR FARMERS

RURAL CREDIT SYSTEM. STRATFORD ASSOCIATION MEETS. Since its inception the Stratford Cooperative Rural Intermediate Credit. Association has not had any losses either of principal or interest or had any reductions in interest made through applications to the Mortgagors’ Relief Commission, anc at the annual meeting yesterday another successful year’s working was disclosed. Mr. A. David presided. . During the year 21 meetings were held, the . report stated. The number of applications for new loans received during the year was a little smaller than last year. . During the year the rigidness of the regulations was considerably relaxed in the direction of easing the repayments in the first two years where necessary, granting concessions on repayments of older loans, and in making re-advances and further advances. All accounts were satisfactory and no further call on shares was made. The total number of loans current was 42, and the number of shareholders increased to 59. There were three applications against the association for relief under the . Mortgagors Relief Acts, but in . all cases ' the association’s security was considered to be within the margin of safety, and the applications were in all cases made primarily against the land mortgagees. The association and. the board had been willing to assist in all cases where it was necessary. The relations between the directors and the- Stratford officers of the. board were most cordial, and they desired to thank the district supervisor and all his officers for, their courtesy. The year was very trying to everybody, and they always rendered all possible assistance. The fact that the association had made approximately? £25,700 available to the farmers, of the district since 1929 proved that the original shareholders rendered valuable service to the farming community in starting the association. The work of the association was considerably increased, There were many applications for refunds, and further advances, and that had- entailed a great deal of extra work on the part of the secretary.

Several farmers spoke on the benefits they had derived from the scheme, and surprise was expressed that many more farmers had not availed themselves of the opportunities the scheme offered. Mr. David was the retiring director and was re-elected, Mr. G. A. Carter being reinstated as auditor. Subsequently Mr. David was re-elected chairman. Appreciation was recorded of the work of the directors and the secretary, Mr. R. R. Tyrer.
