MAN FOUND ON ROAD SIDE

CAR TOPPLES OVER STEEP BANK. 50 FEET CLIMB WHILE INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Discovered in a semi-conscious condition on Mungaroa Hill about seven o’clock this evening, after having apparently crawled up a 50ft. bank over which his car had crashed, Douglas Young, a commercial traveller employed by the Public Mutual Insurance Company, Auckland, was taken to hospital suffering from severe injuries to his back and concussion. Discovery of the accident was made by Mr. W. Wilton, driver of a transport lorry. While he was driving up the hill he noticed a man lying on the side of the road with one arm raised, and, on finding the man to be seriously injured, he sent for help. His attention was then attracted by'music, and on investigation he found a powerful motor-car with its engine still running and a radio set switched full on. The car was 50 feet below the road. The indications were that Mr. Young had misjudged the road while coming down the hill and had crashed over the bank. Although seriously injured he had then crawled up the bank to the road. A nearby resident stated that' he heard a noise about 4 p.m. It is understood that Mr. Young was travelling to Wellington to connect with the ferry service. He lived at 117 Richmond Terrace, Christchurch.
