MOTOR-CAR OVERTURNS
BRIGHT LIGHT AND HEAVY SMOKE ABRASIONS TO HEAD RECEIVED. Dazzled, apparently, by the bright headlight of the Auckland express and befogged by thick black smoke from the engine blowing across the road, William Frank Gray, New Plymouth, lost control of an old model three-seater car near Tariki last night, with the result that it left the highway and overturned, imprisoning the driver. In order to free him it was necessary for a passing motorist to rip off the hood. Mr. Gray, who received abrasions to the head, was taken to a nearby service station, where he was attended by a St. John Ambulance man from Inglewood before being taken to the New Plymouth hospital by ambulance. The accident occurred about 8.20 p.m. on the main road parallel to the railway, about half a mile on the New Plymouth side of Tariki. The car is said to be considerably damaged. Mr. Gray is a salesman employed by Messrs. R. H. Nimmo and Sons.
