PAYING OFF OF BRITISH WARSHIP. REPLACEMENT BY THE BITTERN. British Wireless. Rugby, Sept. 7. The Admiralty announces that it has been decided to pay of H.M.S. Enchantress and replace her on the sale list. She is over 30 years old and considerable expenditure would be required to make her fit for further service. The sloop Bittern, now under construction at the Clydebank, will be renamed Enchantress, and on completion, in addition to performing her normal duties, will be made available for occasional use by the Board of Admiralty for inspections at naval ports and visits to the fleet.
